Bears Draft Suggestions

While most draft analysts offer draft predictions, I simply offer Jerry Angelo suggestions. That's right, Jerry if you are reading this blog (a) What the hell are you thinking, because the draft is in 4 days. (b) Don't worry about showing up on the first day of the draft, because that's not when you draft well anyway. Just let Lovie take care of that. Anyway, Jerry if you would like to discuss these picks later on that would be awesome. Just leave a comment.

1st Round- DeMeco Ryans- OLB- Alabama
Why? I’m not very confident that the Bears are going to be able to resign Lance Briggs thanks to the Drew Rosenhaus Factor. Therefore it’s time to start planning for the future and DeMeco Ryans, reigning SEC Defensive Player of the Year would be a smart pick, even if it’s a reach in the eyes of Junior Kiper. If we do get Briggs signed, Ryans could be a great upgrade over Hillenmeyer on the strong side.
Other Possibilities:
Mercedes Lewis- TE- UCLA
Why? Desmond Clark was our starting tight end. That’s all.
If Available:
Bobby Carpenter- OLB- Ohio State
Why? This would help create an All-Honky LB Corps of Urlacher, Hillenmeyer, and Carpenter.

2nd Round- David Thomas- TE- Texas
Why? Desmond Clark was our starting tight end. Also, I know that this may be a bit of a reach, but I had a Jay Novacek flashback watching him play during the Rose Bowl last year. His performance sealed up his "Jeremy Stevens Award"
Other Possibilities:
Thomas Howard- OLB- UTEP
Why? I’ll level with you. I’ve never seen this person play on tv, but damn it, this is where he’s ranked, and if we don’t get an OLB in the 1st round, we’ll need to address this need here.
If Available:
Leonard Pope- TE- Georgia
Why? This mammoth tight end will probably be gone by this point in the 2nd round, and he’s slipped a bit in some mock drafts lately so if that keeps happening, this would be a great choice for the Bears in the 2nd round.

4th Round- Jeremy Bloom- WR/RS- Colorado
Why? He’s better than Bobby Wade and his blazing 40 time (4.37) improved his stock. He’d also be a great fit as our 3rd receiver, especially with Mark Bradley coming back from an injury.
Other Possibilities:
Roman Harper- S- Alabama
Why? With the Bears trading Mike Green for a second 6th round pick earlier today, they will probably be looking to bolster the safety position and this guy fits the bill.
Anwar Phillips- CB- Penn St.
Why? Because new Bear, Ricky Manning Jr., may be playing in the California Penal League this year. Plus, I’m still not sold on Peanut at corner, and the Bears-Panthers debacle showed that we can never have too many corners on the roster.

5th Round- John Walker- CB- USC
Why? See above. Plus, let’s face it John Walker may be the most spirited player in the draft especially in the fifth round…wait for corny joke…wait and…there it is. Sidenote #1: Is there any truth to the rumor that the NFL is going to rename the fifth round the "750 mL Round" per Jimmy Harris’ request?
Other Possibilities:
Adam Jennings- WR/RS- Fresno St.
Why? This guy fits the need, if the Bears look to address the need here in the 5th.
If Available:
Anwar Phillips- CB- Penn St.
Sidenote #2: Every year I watch guys like Anwar in the Big Ten and think that they will be quality players and then when draft day comes around, they always slip. Last year it was Michigan safety, Ernest Shazor who went undrafted. Meanwhile the Bears drafted no-name safety Chris Harris, and I was pissed. Then Chris Harris turned out to be good while Mr. Shazor registered one tackle for the Cardinals.

6th Round- (A) Jimmy Martin- OT- Virginia Tech
Why? You can never have enough linemen, and this guy looks to have the size and ability especially at this stage of the draft.
(B) Nate Salley- S- Ohio State
Why? Need to address safeties and this is another one of the Big Ten players that is always making plays.
Other Possibilities:
Frostee Rucker- DE- USC
Why? His name is Frostee.
Will Allen- OG- Texas
Michael Toudouze- OT- TCU
Why? You can never have enough linemen. Do you see a theme here.

Draft Findings

So here’s a tidbit that some of you IU fans out there may find interesting. After spending way too much time on the ESPN.com NFL Draft site, there are a couple of names from the past that I have found. Two former IU Hoosiers are listed as potential draftees coming from D-II schools.
Rashon Myles a RB from Abilene Christian and DT Steve Williams from NW Missouri State. You may remember Rashon Myles from me thinking that he should have started at running back for the Hoosiers to move Levron to WR. Then we went to Wisconsin and Levron proved to me (because that mattered to him) that he was a decent running back. Steve Williams was one of the biggest recruits for the Cam-era Hoosiers and was absolutely huge, but well, he never lived up to his billing…as you can tell since he was playing at NW Missouri State.

Kanye

So I went to my first rap concert last night, since seeing Cypres Hill at that farm outside of Bloomington, IN, and I'd have to say that Kanye was a little better. I would have been pissed to have missed Kanye live at Redbird Arena, especially since the “ticket” was me staying at work until the concert started. If you like Kanye, I would totally recommend seeing him live. If you don’t like Kanye (Puck I’m guessing you on this one), you could probably live without seeing him. Anyway, unfortunately there is only one funny thing that I saw at the concert. There was a girl so drunk before the opening act, which was a group called Black Violin, that her friends had to take her home before Black Violin finished one song. Sidenote #2: If you are curious as to who/what Black Violin is, you should know that it’s not just a clever name. It is two black guys playing rap songs such as Stay Fly (Three 6 Mafia) and Ready or Not (The Fugees) on violins.

Useless fact-

Steve Williams was a two time state wrestling champion at heavyweight (IL) and gave up wrestling his senior year because he had a 'Big Ten Football scholarship'. It was a shock to the IL H.S. wrestling world and I didnt know he had signed with IU until I got to IU and there he was!

Williams also pinned my ex-boyfriend in about 65 seconds at a meet once. It was unbelievable.
