Catching Up
I'm a little upset that I haven't had more time to write more blogs over the past couple of months, and it's definitely going to be my New Year's Resolution this year.
So why am I writing now, you may ask? Well my internal clock says that it's 9:30pm, and it's actually 11:30pm. Basically I'm bored and I just watched the IU All Access on SportsCenter. By the way, I'm still excited about the Kelvin Sampson era, especially since Butler has turned into the best early season story in college basketball. Sidenote #1: For years now, I feel like I should be running ESPN. Simmons wants ESPN6, I want the original. See ya later, bye Michael Irvin. Anyway, give me one good reason why ESPN did not start their NIT coverage at the MSG by having Butler and Todd Likliter reenact Norman Dale's tape measure routine. I guess they don't want to entertain us anymore. This was a classic opportunity and they just lost out. Longest. Sidenote. Ever.
Last night I'm sure you were at a bar with your friends, and I'm sure that you actually saw the same people that I did. Here they are.
What's his/her name?
You kind of remember this person, but you really don't have anything to say. Unfortunately this person still wants to converse with you. Pointless conversation ensues. For instance if I found myself in this conversation last night more than once. When these people asked what was new, I answered "not much". That's kind of false since, well I have moved to California.
The old guy
At about 10pm, my best friend Nick and I rolled in and this guy was about to make his exit. This sucked, because he seemed like kind of a cool old guy, who's probably pissed because his "Wednesday stool" was just taken by a 22 year old mildly attractive college girl. This is where cool old guy differs from dirty old guy.
Person you really didn't know, but now you like more than you did when you were in high school.
Every year I find myself talking to someone who I had a few classes with in high school. Sidenote #2: At Watseka, 12 usually constitutes "a few classes". However in one night, I probably equaled the number of meaningful conversations that I had with the same person in high school. This is pretty easy though in a season when you can start a conversation with ANYONE by saying, "How about those Bears?" and you don't have to talk about Cal's latest loss to USC.
Former teacher/coach
OK I realize that this probably ONLY happens in small towns (aka Dubtown), but this is always a good time. Last night Nick and I tried to get a pair of our old high school basketball shorts from a former coach. He told us it would get them to us, but he also probably thought that we were actually intoxicated, and therefore the convo never happened.
The Buzzkill
The night started with a guy telling me how his life sucked, because he worked long hours had a long commute and "had his kid every other weekend". So of course, when he asked me what was up, I could only respond with "Nothing much".
Overall it was a good time, although it WASN'T cool that the bar didn't have the Gonzaga/UNC game on the tv, but DID have A&E on the flat screen behind the bar.
Today's Random Thoughts
Has Tony Romo dating Jessica Simpson replaced Joey Harrington playing the piano as the most overplayed T'giving story line ever?
Is it still "Our Country"?
Why doesn't anyone talk about Friday afternoon's college games as much as the Lions and Cowboys games, when the college games are ALWAYS better games?
Segue alert
I just thought that you should know that there are 10 football games on my radar screen tomorrow. Here they are:
IHSA Class 1A-4A
IHSAA Class 1A-3A
Texas-Texas A&M
Colorado-Nebraska
and last but certainly not least Arkansas-LSU.
Sidenote #3: If you haven't watched the Hogs play this year, get to a tv tomorrow afternoon, because Darren McFadden is the most underappreciated college player in the country. Yes I know that I just may have cursed him with the dreaded "Random Thoughts Jinx."
I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving! Go Bears!
